Film Facts

Every day thousands of people make what they think will be a simple decision - to have their vehicle's windows tinted. The decision can become complicated when they start shopping around. The price to have film installed on an average car in the local market can range from as little as $150 to $225 for the very same vehicle. But how is the average consumer to know why there is such a wide range of prices? They must know what type of window film they are buying and how it will be applied.

Non-Reflective/Dyed Material
This type of window film is the lowest quality available and also the cheapest. Being a "non-reflective" film means is non-metal based. No metal content in a film means very low heat rejection and poor overall performance and longevity. We do not carry this type of film for that reason.

High Performance "Hybrid" Film
This type of window film is called "Hybrid" because it is made with dye for color and metal for heat rejection, therefore it is a reflective type film. Our Silhouette Charcoal is a hybrid film that is sputter coated with aluminum for outstanding performance in the California sun. This film carries a lifetime warranty against bubbling and peeling and is fade resistant so any color change that may ever occur is very slow if ever. This is our most popular film choice.

All Metal Film
This product is just what the name implies. It is "all metal" meaning it is a reflective film with no dyes for color. The visual effect is a slightly "mirrored" or silver appearance. Our "Executive" film is an all metal film type, and is becoming increasingly popular. One advantage of this film is that the lifetime warranty also covers color change, because no dye means it cannot turn purple and unlikely to fade.

Quality of Installation
Another issue to be concerned with is the installation procedure. There are shortcuts that can be taken which can affect you getting a quality tinting job. A one piece rear window is essential in almost every application. Whenever possible, the film applied on the rear window of a car should be one sheet of film heat formed to eliminate the need for multiple pieces or seams in the application that looks poor and can cause premature peeling at the seam lines. Proper cleaning of the glass before the film is applied is essential for positive film adhesion. The proper gap at the edge of the door glass is also important for a quality tinting job. Too close and the film may peel, too wide looks unprofessional when the window is rolled down.

Other Things To Know
No, it's not brain surgery, but there are certain things you should know before you have your vehicle tinted at any shop. Such as how long they have been in business, how long has the installer has been tinting, and if the warranty covers labor for film replacement should it be needed. Based on the information given on this page, you should be able to make an informed decision in having us, or anyone else for that matter, install window film on your vehicle's windows. Once you do, you will enjoy added comfort, beauty, safety, and value to your auto for years to come.
